Welcome one, welcome all to JACK's 2012 Olympics!
For the next 5 weeks, you'll be competing in weekly "challenges" designed to help you:
Medals will be earned as you participate in the weekly challenges and medals will be tallied on the medal counts page. Just as some sports award multiple medals (like track and field or gymnastics or swimming) some challenges will have many medals given out. Other sports (like soccer, softball or basketball) only award one set of medals to the teams who do the best. My medals can be awarded both ways. Which reminds me: we have our very first awards ceremony to complete! The first week's challenge was for each athlete to design a flag to represent themselves that shows their knowledge, goals and/or vision about healthy living.
The gold medals for this challenge go to:
. . . Drum Roll Please. . . .
Judy
Charles
Becky
Mark
Jeff
Michelle
Alma
Patrick
Sam
Tyler
Amy
Michael
Annelyn
Jessa
Alex
Lyndsey
Melissa
and
Adam
Check out the "Parade of Athletes" tab to learn more about the healthy visions of these contestants.
***A note for any athletes arriving late: submit your flags to Becky for inclusion on the Parade of Athletes page and you may still be able to win a silver or bronze medal for your efforts!***
As for this week, the challenge is:
Obstacle Course
Rules of Play: Design an obstacle course in your yard, a nearby park, or even a roomy basement (if the weather is not permitting). Using obstacles like trees, benches, toys etc. chart your course and give everyone participating at your house a few practice runs. Then submit your course map and best timed runs to Becky by Saturday night.Multiple medals will be awarded based on age and location for the fastest runs.
Last but not least, a note on media and spectator support:
Since I, JACK, am too poor to pay for primetime coverage of these events, I would appreciate any of you photographers and writers out there submitting blog posts that cover the activities and stories from these Olympics. I heard from one of our spectators the other day that seeing what everyone is doing, cheering each other on and helping the young athletes see who's who is going to be a great part of these Olympics.
Also, check out the healthy habits bulletin boards and watch out for blog posts about individuals' progress towards this month's healthy habits goals. Accountability and support are key in encouraging each other to reach our goals and live healthier happier lives.
JACK signing off. . . until next time. . .
