Goal setting tips

Here's some info I read a while back about setting healthy goals. It might give you some tips as you set your goals.

When setting goals think of the word TRIM -- that's where we are all headed, isn't it?

Time-bound - An effective goal should have a deadline.
Realistic - If you set a goal you cannot reach, there's not much point in setting one, is there? Choose a target you are pretty sure you will be able to hit.
Inspiring - Your goals should be something that really matters to you -- attainable, but ambitious enough to excite you. Pounds may not matter to you as much as being fit enough to keep up with your children/grandchildren on hikes or bike rides.
Measurable - A worthwhile goal has to be measurable and should be specific. You need to define exactly how you will measure your progress.

Some examples given are:
Instead of:
- "lose as much weight as I can before summer begins" you could say "drop 10 pounds over the next 2 months"
- "Be better about my diet" you could say "Follow my plan at least six days out of seven"
- "Get back into shape" you could say "Jog for 45 minutes at least three times a week in preparation for a 10-K charity run"
- "Try to be more active" you could say "Walk at least 30 minutes five days a week"
- "Eat fewer sweets" you could say "Treat myself to just one dessert a week for the coming month"
- "Feel less embarrassed by the way I look" you could say "Lose 10 pounds and join a fitness class by a certain date"
